Our array of pre-clinical and clinical imaging equipment allows us to test new technologies from proof-of-principle studies in model systems to pre-market validation studies in humans. Because our scientists and engineers are constantly extending the capabilities for our equipment, we use our intellectual property to gather data that is not available through any other means.
MRI technology is ideal for imaging soft tissue, such as the brain. It is also ideal for animal cardiac or oncology research where subtle contrast changes in soft tissue that need to be detected. This technology can be used with the PET/CT in cases where it is beneficial to have functional PET data overlaid on both anatomical CT images and structurally-detailed MR images.
The premiere technique for cancer imaging, PET/CT is predicted on the principle of tracer injection to localize, characterize, and quantify molecular processes. Combining positron emission tomography with computerized tomography allows simultaneous evaluation of molecular processes and anatomy.
Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography
The SPECT system is capable of producing high-resolution 3D images of radio-labeled molecules targeting disease. Complimentary to the existing PET/CT system, SPECT is a less expensive and a widely available clinical modality, allowing diagnostic agents developed for SPECT to be widely marketed.
MRI with Simultaneous PET
The addition of a PET insert to MRI allows for the acquisition of simultaneous data from both modalities which allows us to combine multiple types of dynamic and anatomic scanning to study a number of disease processes, such as Alzheimer’s and cancer.
Clinical Technology & Infrastructure
This 306-channel, whole-head MEG is the most advanced unit in Canada. The high temporal resolution of this system makes it preferable to other imaging techniques in observing spatial neural activity in real time and its non-invasive nature makes it ideal for working with pediatric populations.
High-Field Magnetic Resonance Imaging
This whole-body system has functional, structural and stereoscopic imaging capabilities. High magnetic fields can permit measurements that are absolutely impossible at lower fields. It is specifically the ability to develop and apply measurements that could not be done on conventional MRI systems that we aim to exploit through the use of this high field MRI technology.
This 128-channel active electrode system uses tiny preamplifiers embedded on the electrodes to maximize data quality while minimizing the time requirement and discomfort associated with subject preparation. The EEG system is suitable for studying neural responses from the brainstem to the cerebral cortex, as well as other physiological signals like ECG and EMG.
BIOTIC’s EEG suite houses a cutting edge GSI AudioStar Pro Clinical two-channel audiometer. Audiometers are the primary piece of medical equipment used by audiologists and other hearing specialists. These carefully-calibrated and specialized devices deliver precise sound stimuli to patients in order to evaluate their hearing abilities under a wide variety of listening scenarios, ranging from simple tones to virtual environments that simulate real-world listening challenges.
