BIOTIC (BIOmedical Translational Imaging Centre) is a multi-site imaging centre that is embedded in the two leading research and teaching hospitals in Nova Scotia. Our multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams, providing expertise in all facets of imaging research and development, collaborate on commercial development projects with industry partners as well as research and development projects with a number of institutions. Our advanced pre-clinical and clinical imaging equipment are housed in three labs, in two health centres encompassing over 12,000 square feet of lab space.

The BIOTIC team co-develops medical technologies as well as creates new imaging techniques and methods for diagnosing and monitoring treatment. We are the only group in Atlantic Canada with a collection of research-dedicated imaging technologies of this magnitude. The need to have a research-dedicated imaging facility with a multi-disciplinary staff capable of undertaking research to result in commercialization has lead to the creation of BIOTIC. This was made possible due to a partnership between IWK Health Centre and QEII Health Sciences Centre, and the region’s life sciences community.

BIOTIC has become a vital part of Nova Scotia’s life sciences ecosystem. Companies are routinely capitalizing on BIOTIC’s location and equipment, in combination with the team’s depth of knowledge, range of expertise and passion for advancing science and technology. This is what truly sets BIOTIC apart.
